Verizon offers symmetrical 20 mbps

Verizon Communications announced this week a symmetrical 20 mbps upstream/downstream broadband access service, the latest move by broadband service providers to redefine their services into speed tiers. The service is $64.99 with VoIP service, and $109.99 is customers sign up for a FiOS TV package, voice service and the new symmetrical plan.

Amid the controversy generated by Comcast’s delaying of some peer-to-peer traffic, it seems like service provider are moving toward more specific bandwidth packages that, in addition to the benefit for customers, will undoubtedly help the carriers to better forecast and manage bandwidth patterns.
