Earlier this month, new Siemens CEO Peter Loescher told a German newspaper that the company was considering making several changes to improve its financial performance, including possibly selling its 50 percent share in the Nokia Siemens Networks equipment joint venture.

Late last week, Loescher went a little further. After calling reporters to a press briefing to discuss an initial round of corporate structure and management changes at Siemens, Loescher responded to questions about NSN by saying the company was “absolutely not satisfied” with the joint venture.

If Siemens sells, there may be a short-term gain from the sale, but what will be the company’s long-term plan for addressing the telecom and mobile markets? The company’s bribery scandal hasn’t helped matters, and perhaps it should reassure telecom customers, rather than seeming to withdraw.
