Freenet looking for broadband buyer
German carrier Freenet is looking to sell its DSL-based broadband operation, in what market watchers say is a sign of more European telecom consolidation on the horizon. The earlier rise of the Internet and the more recent emergence of video as a telecom service has fueled the arrival of numerous competitive carriers in some markets.
Those market watchers say some countries have too many competing forces for all of them to thrive, but if the European Union pursues regulation on a continental scale and forced structural separation, the number of competitors is sure to jump again.
