Company launches free SIP-based VoIP service
A company based in Dubai and New York says it’s launching yet another free VoIP service. Efonica says its service will provide secure and high-quality calls using technology its parent company is trying to patent. The parent company, Fusion Telecommunications International, says it’s applied for a patent on a technique it uses to provide service between SIP devices. We don’t understand the business plan of using a proprietary network to provide free service over open standards and we don’t know any details of the patent. But Fusion does say that its service does not use the Skype technique of borrowing processing power and bandwidth from its users.
