NASA mess-up leaves hundreds VoIP-less
A new VoIP system’s outage at NASA’s Washington, D.C. headquarters reportedly disabled the phone system and all computer networking for several hours. According to an internal NASA memo making the rounds, a contracted technician inadvertently deleted the entire NASA Headquarters VoIP user database while adding 19 new VoIP user accounts to the system. It seems that the technician caused the system shutdown when he answered a warning question incorrectly. If true, this is an excellent example of human error as a cause of VoIP technology system breakdown. On the other hand, a system that breaks so easily probably needs some redesign, too.
