Based on VOI technology (Voice Over Internet) according to their website, CHOCOPHONE is the first system in Europe, entirely Italian, to offer a free, high-quality phone service allowing you to make phone calls at no charge from your PC to another PC, from the PC to a fixed line telephone and now, thanks to SVS also from your PC to a mobile phone
It looks as if you can sign up for their service and download their free software even if you are not in Italy, which may be a benefit to you. The only word we could understand during the first setup screen was the word bugfix - everything else was in Italian. If you install the software before securing a registration the software directs you to a page in italian to register. ChocoPhone does show an ad which, the company says, keeps this a free service. Chocophone spots are chosen on the basis of each user’s tastes, as indicated on the registration form

The ChocoPhone software supports video calls and appears to be a valid SIP VoIP telephone for the Internet. We have not tested the software but it is available as a free download from their website.
Their website also says that you can call Italian land line numbers even if the user does not have ChocoPhone installed. This too may be a benefit in a global economy. Just call the area code and the number as if you were in Italy. No need to dial 0039 or 01139.
Short Vocal Service is an additional feature of this service. You can connect to Italian land lines without disconnecting. Short vocal is an alternative to SMS messages according to the website.
ChocoPhone from Abbeynet seems like an interesting alternative for those with offices in Italy or those who want a virtual presence in Italy. We are unclear if it runs with a hard phone and ATA adapter so we do not know if will work with your cordless or corded phone.
